My Beta Suspicion

Friday, October 10th, 2008

1be·ta /béta/ pron saya (digunakan orang-orang besar pd zaman dahulu dl cerita klasik Melayu, penyair dl karya sastra masa kemudian, atau masyarakat di Maluku;
ber·be·ta v menggunakan kata beta untuk pengganti diri sendiri

2be·ta /béta/ n nama huruf ke-2 abjad Yunani

How come GMail and Remember The Milk is still in beta version? Aren’t they already around like forever?

Maybe it’s because beta there doesn’t mean beta as in Beta for “ready to release version” but more like in Indonesia language according to KBBI Daring meaning “I or me”. So GMail beta means My Gmail.

Convert Currency Using Google [Lifehack]

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

If you want to convert any currency to Indonesia Dollar Rupiah (IDR) you can use simple Google search. Example

50000 JPY in IDR

You can do it both ways.

100000 IDR in EUR

And if you want to have another measurement and calculate it to IDR, such as BBM Price per Litre :

123 USD per Barrel in IDR per Litre

It’s a lot quicker way than to run Calculator on your Desktop, but I wonder where Google defines his Currency Rates.

Gmail or Googlemail? It’s still the same [Email r Us]

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

Well, apparently if you sign up using google account you will have not one but two email address first one is your genuine xyz@gmail.com, the other is xyz@googlemail.com. But why does this important? Well, you can use it for some reason like :

  1. Subscribe in yahoogroups or googlegroups using one of your google email and create a filter for those emails from group easier.
  2. You can give for you VIP contact list a gmail.com email and the rest of your contact a googlemail.com address. This way you can separate each groups using filter and treat them differently.
  3. You can give this treatment also for Business email and Personal email.

There is still some trick in gmail address, such as

  1. You can give your email using dot like l.p.l.p.x@gmail.com or l…..plpx@gmail.com and it still sends to lplpx@gmail.com, but if there’s another account with l.p.l.p.x@gmail.com that email will be send to that person.
  2. You can add plus sign like lplpx+test01@gmail.com and lplpx+test02@gmail.com and it send to lplpx.com as well.

Have a nice try.
