Why are you moving your blog(s)?

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

Wow, i cannot believe that two favorite bloggers moving from their wordpress domain almost at the same time. One moving from here to his dotcom, and others are moving from here to her dotcom. Why do they move? Well, they might have their own reasons. Anyway, if you want to move your blogs, you surely have a right reason to do it. Such as :

  1. Wordpress or blogspot or dagdigdug is so not YOU. Yeah, admit it. This is the main reason. Everyone’s a geek and want yourname.com domain. You dislike putting the wordpress.com or blogspot.com when you tell others about your blog. Yes, eliminate the middle man. go straight to the dotcom.
  2. Level up! Wordpress and blogspot is for write-only blogger, with some exceptions, of course. When you have more experiences and want to spice things up, then your own domain is the next stage. You control your own files and pictures and themes and plugins.
  3. Free domain for ehm..free. Yes, apparently your blog at wp reach a lot of fans and one of them decide to surprise you by giving you a free dotcom domain. Or you won it in some contest. It will be such a waste not to use it right?
  4. Create your trademark. More or less the same like number one. You can’t create your trademark with the middle man still hang around you.

A : Hey, what’s your blog?
B : jdkjsfi
A : good, wordpress or blogspot?
B : Blogspot. What’s yours?
A : lplpx
B : nice, wordpress or blogspot?
A : nope, just lplpx.com
B : That’s sooooo cool…

If you feel ready, create your own domain. But as starter, you can create your own blog in wordpress or blogspot or dagdigdug.

Everybody do a kungfu fighting..

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

Yes, Kungfu Panda is everywhere. There’s many reviews already in blogosphere, from deniar, jazzylounge, akulahaji, alderina, simplyvie, justaroundme, riyogarta and riananda
. Kungfu panda is a story about Po, a panda that’s a big fan of kungfu and become a hero after learning kungfu from kungfu master named Shifu. It’s Dreamworks animation, not a sinetron or even a dorama. Here’s what you can learn after watching that movie.

  1. You’re precious, no matter who you are. Po is neither handsome nor smart, but he has a big heart. He’s neither strong and green, nor small but powerful, but he has spirit and courage to be a hero.
  2. Live in the present. Don’t live in the past or tomorrow. Today is a gift, that’s why it’s called present. You can do a lot on one day.
  3. Live your life. Don’t live your life according to your dad’s expectations or your mother wishes. You have your own dreams and goal. Pursue it with all your heart.
  4. Bad things will come on your way, don’t be afraid. Just believe in yourself.

Eventually, white and black is always a nice combination.

June

Monday, June 30th, 2008

What are you doing this past month? In the month of June? Do you celebrate your birthday, or your son’s or your sister’s? Experience something on special day? Do you celebrate Jakarta’s birthday by going to Jakarta Fair or Jakarta Book Fair? Traveling somewhere?

Do you remember what you’re doing this month a year ago? Reading some good stories or poem? Kissing someone special? Or Praising the lord?

Maybe you watched EURO 2008? Feeling sleepy after watching the matches. Cheering for Spain after they won it. Being mesmerized by its magic.

Yes, June is just a month in the flowing river of time.

It’s no seven wonder of the world, but still very special. Marriage is always special, especially on the day before you’re turning 26.

The Anatomy of Hiatus

Friday, June 27th, 2008

Main Entry    : hi·a·tus
Pronunciation : \hi-’a-t?s\
Function      : noun
Etymology     : Latin, from hiare to yawn — more at yawn
Date          : 1563
1 a: a break in or as if in a material object : gap <the hiatus between the theory and the practice of the party — J. G. Colton> b: a gap or passage in an anatomical part or organ
2 a: an interruption in time or continuity : break; especially : a period when something (as a program or activity) is suspended or interrupted <after a 5-year hiatus from writing> b: the occurrence of two vowel sounds without pause or intervening consonantal sound
(Merriam-Webster)

So you don’t know what to write and you said it loud and clear on your first sentence. Maybe you’re just too ennui to post something. Or too busy and didn’t even have a chance to read your feed subscription. Maybe you’re having a munchausen headache or in a relaxing coma. All in all, you just want to say it, “I’m on hiatus”

But really, do you want to do it? Or what you really want is to tell stories again? Or tell the world that you still here. What’s the reason behind your hiatus? Is it because you’re moving your home? Or, perhaps you’re simply moving on.

Or you want your reader to miss you? So you can say “I’m back.” , “Hello world!“, or “Miss me?

Realize though, you can still make a good posting. You can reuse your old archives, posting some pics, or posting some inspirational lyrics. If you’re talented, you can write your memories about garden, departure, infinity, faces, windows, and your love and polish it to become a poem.

Do you still want to go hiatus?

Apakah blog lebih baik daripada buku?

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

Be a Guest Blogger [Blogging]

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

Recently I’ve been a guest blogger in here, and of course as a guest I must know what a guest blogger should and shouldn’t do.

Sell Yourself - as part of the agreement that you have with the blogger that you’re helping out negotiate a byline (or by-paragraph) that will enable you to sell yourself (within reason). Include a link back to your blog and RSS feed as well as a brief biographical/descriptive sentence or two about who you are and what you do.

It’s a good thing being a guest blogger, but in Indonesia, it’s never a common practice, IMHO. Blogger think that you’ve already have difficulties maintaining one blog, let alone being a guest blogger.

What’s your Style on Blog Reading? [Blogging]

Monday, April 28th, 2008

I enjoy blogwalking, because there’s so much informations, quirks, opinions or blabbing that worth to read. But this post make me wonder whether I am reading and visiting too much blogs. There’s a pros and cons, of course. One of the advantage of visiting so many blogs or subscribing to their feeds is you have a lot of information and always keep updates of what happened in this world. Also it can be the source of inspiration.

The ultimate cons is time consumption. And the anger from your boss when he caught you slacking (you can always give reason : for research). Anyhow, it’s necessary to develop your effective and efficient ways to read or to visit blogs.

One way to deal with some of these blog-reading downsides would be to change how I organize my RSS feeds. Currently, they’re organized by topic — I have a set of feeds for “productivity”, another on “writing”, a third on “education”, and so on.There are a few topics I try to read at least partially every day, and some I only read when I get around to it. But maybe I should adopt a system I’ve seen some others use, categorizing by priority?

My current reader is set to daily, monthly, and blogger. How about you?
