Indonesian Introvert [Personal]

Monday, May 12th, 2008

I’m an introvert. It’s not a disease or disability, but sometimes I have a tendency to retreat from what so-called human being and everything that connected to it. It’s not that i hate human being, it’s just that I need only a small dosage of human being to connect with everyday or for the rest of my lifetime for that matter.

No, i’m not anti social, although there are some moment when i think i was anti social. I have one or two best friends, a lot of friends or should i say acquaintances. But, all in all, I feel liberated or have more freedom if i’m left alone. Yes, social networking is important and you shouldn’t say that social networking is something that only extroverted person capable of doing.

Indonesia is an extroverted country. We share stories, gossip and just content when you feel needed by others. Indonesia knows words like ‘musyawarah‘,’gotong-royong‘ and a Javanese slogan, ‘Mangan ora mangan asal kumpul.‘ Sometimes Indonesian people just cannot left people alone. They want to know other person’s desire, opinion and business. Maybe that’s why a gossip show is very popular here.

So if you have an introverted friend, don’t judge him/her to be a loner or a hard person. It’s just them doing their own business.

What You Must Do in an Interview [Corporate Life]

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

There’s a lot of things that you must do before your big interview to make a good impression. Yahoo! hotjobs compiles seven of them, including :

Find out what keeps the Boss up at night. Do your homework so you understand not only the job or promotion for which you are applying, but also the job of the senior executive above it. Do you know to whom this person reports, and what the top issues are for your boss’s boss? Tip: Make that knowledge part of your interview conversation. Show an interest not only in the specifics of the job, but in the product and markets for that company. Ask broad questions: “What do you think the potential growth in the Indian market is?”

If you want to get that big job, you must also thinking big. A different interview that you offer could be the decisive factor between a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ decision.
